I just tested my ph & its gone up from 8.2 to 8.4, so i thought i would test my alkalinity, this also as gone up from 8 to 11, can't think what caused this other then me doing my first water change the other day,but as i understand this is better anyway, could it be from putting some nutrients in the salt back into the tank, i added 2 clown fish also, no meds or anything else have been added, oh i did buy a bag of shells for the hermit crabs and put a few of them in they were very clean all types, shapes and sizes, some shiny?

Doing water changes is how I keep my parameters in check. It's a good idea to check new/old water so, you don't have a spike in kh too quickly.

I wish I had that problem, if my ph reaches 8.1 its a miracle, a blue moon and a unicorn. Ph, Alk, Dkh are all related. Luna

I've been doing that for 2-3 months when the main lights go out to no avail. For some god forsaken reason, my ph consistently sits at 8.0(rounding off), of course, with the exception of night time. I have tried everything that you(Otty) and Tangster has suggested, but still the same results. Luna

I run all my make up water through the kalk except for two times a day when I turn the pump on to mix I shut the ATO off for 2 hrs but then it is right back on. Are you testing pH with a meter or test kit??

I have/use both a Pin point monitor and a test kit and they both give me the same reading. I also dose Kalk but only at night and not every night. Im afraid if I dose every night, my Cal levels will sky rocket. When I do dose(at night) my ph stays around 7.94(-/+) but never passes 8.0 I did what you had suggested, which was to place the air pump outside(3-4 wks) and that didnt change a thing. The only factor that Im thinking about is my O2 may be a little low(Salifert O2 test kit= 7-8). Im open for any other suggestions that you may have. Luna
