I know fluctuations in PH are normal and change throughout the day with the light cycle. But I just wanted to know if mine are normal or if I need to put something in place to maintain it more.

I have the Apex system and yesterday graph shows that at 5am it was "7.93" then it rose throughout the day peaking at 4:10pm -6:10pm at "8.23". It then started to drop again until it levelled out again at 5am at "7.93"

I have fish only and live rock, but plan on adding some hardy corals in the next few weeks. Do these fluctuations seem about right or should there be less of a change. If so, how can I best achieve this.

    Thanks for you advice :)

As long as the mi and max are the same or within .01 of each other I would not worry about it. 0.3 is a large fluctuation, but as long as it is consistent you will not have any issues. My pH fluctuates from 7.88 to 8.08 daily. I know someone whose pH is 7.9 at max and 7.7 at min. They keep sps and lps without any issues all because it is a stable pH.

Stability is key. If its stable I would leave it alone. If you want you could add something like "reef builder" to your ATO. This stabilizes ph. I have a 24 lighted refugium so that might be part of it but I use the reef builder and my ph swings are very very minimal.

7.8-8.5 is ok, the ocean is 8.0-8.3 , higher or lower on lagoons.

I concur. Stability is whats important. Coral and fish can adapt to a slightly higher or lower pH but drastic swings is whats bad for them

OK cool, thanks for the replies. I will monitor it over the next week and if the readings stay consistent I will leave it alone. Thanks again

Seems fine to me; people do not report negative effects regarding small pH swings like that. Just try to make sure it doesn't get much below 7.8 or above 8.5ish.
