Two months ago I made DIY rock (150ish lbs) I seperated it out into 7 different barrels. Ph fell to 8.8 wouldnt move bounced a little then back to 8.8....put the rocks into a 55 gallon areated tank week later ph 7.8. Was the rubbermaid totes my issue along?

I am filling the barrel with tap water again and will monitor the ph daily I cant belive the concrete rock dropped in a week in less water the ratio of rock to water is higher in the 55 gallon tank, than it was in the 55 gallon rubbermaid cans

Gus,i'm gonna agree with the other two,i would guess it was just part of the curing process of homemade rock and the containers had nothing to do with it.

Keep in mind anything you use to make "rock" whether its plaster, or concrete, or whatever else works by a chemical reaction with its various components. That means potential pH changes.

That being said, try testing the rubbermaid with just water and no rocks in it. That will tell you what you want to know.

I doubt that it had much to do with the totes. I would bet that the water change and adding aeration is what brought it down. Getting that co2 dissolved in there would make a huge difference.

As concrete cures, it will definitely cause a high pH, around 9 sounds right off the top of my head. After weeks of curing, it should come down. This is most likely what happened.
