Our new tank has one of those cool neptune ph moniters. My question goes to those who have a ph moniter and doses kalk or not, over night.

We dose kalk and switch with ro overnight depending on the ph. Ours so far goes from 83.1 down to 8.23 within like a 4 hour period. (It was 8.28 down to 8.0 so we added buffer trying to keep it on the higher side) When ph shows 8.31 it switches to ro water instead.

This is ok, I'm sure because we dosed 10 years, without any problems and had no idea how much it changed overnight. We find ourselves micromanaging it now with all these little cool ;D gadgets.

How much does your ph change overnight and how much of a bounce do you get?

You are over doing it on the pH. Mine gets as low as 7.89 in the winter because of the house being closed up and a ventless fireplace running in the house putting excess CO2 in the air. I would not be adding buffer at 8.0 Open a window and it will go up by it self. I run ALL my top off water thru KALK 24/7, not just at night.
You pH will come up during your photosynthesis period and go down when the lights go off. This is why most run a refugium and run the lights on a reverse light cycle to help maintain pH a little.

We are running a compact light in the ref. at night. I have frags growing in it. My calcium was running at 580 so was concerned about adding too much kalk w/ that also.

How much does your ph change in a 24 hour cycle? If they normal do a huge drop then ok, we just don't know.

    Thanks

If your Ca is that high then I bet you Mag or ALK is low. Check those and make sure they are in check. I have seen mine move as many as many as 0.35 before .
