so i've been trying to raise my pH for a while and have done so by using part 1 of a two part buffer. not sure what it is exactly. i was given a little from the person i buy fish from locally. my pH is now between 8.3-8.6.( not getting an exact match to any color on the card)

so i wanted to do a water change since i used so many chemicals lately. i made up about 20 gallons of water in a plastic drum. (sg 1.024). when i tested the pH after 24hrs i got 8.6. this is just salt powder and water. why is it so high? is this level ok for a FOWLR? will it drop if i leave it mixing with the power head? i read the range for pH is 8.1-8.4, so why would salt mix give a pH of 8.6?

it has to do with the amount of dissolved oxygen in your water...
    more CO2 = lower pH...
    do you know your dkH?

no, i don't have a test for that.
i just wanted to find out if it is normal for the pH of newly mixed salt to be high for a while. it hasn't been added to the tank yet.

Maybe you have a bad batch of salt because I use the same brand of salt.
