    What are some natural / automated ways to reduce the Ph level of the tank?

    All the information I've read is that high levels are bad, just not automated methods of removing them.

    Adding Alkalinity will decrease the Ph but if that is high also isn't that bad too?

    Don't confuse Alkaline with Alkalinity :)

    PH is measure from a scale of 0 to 14

    0 = the most acidic
    14 = the most alkaline or base
    7 is considered neutral.

    As most of the biological process in an aquarium drive the water toward the acidic end of the scale we try to raise the waters Alkalinity.

    Alkalinity is a measurement of the waters ability to resist that change. Also known as buffer.

    Others will be able to give you a better explaination but that is the essence of it. There are also some links in the Water Chemistry forum that explain.

    Yup! For the few years I had my tank setup before...I don't ever remember having to LOWER the PH...I was always supplementing to increase it. You will be using additives to balance the PH, Calcium, and Alkalinity...it is a balancing act and they are all related. The main thing I did was to add a Kalkwasser DRIP very slowly. That buffers and adds calcium
