I have had in the near past 3 peppermint shrimp and 1 "phantom" shrimp. All 4 are missing! I know most everyone is going to say the peppermints don't come out until night but I can see almost all angles of every aspect of my rock so I know they are not there and I have checked in the middle of the night! They all disappeared within a week or less of eachother!

Also has anyone heard of a Phantom shrimp? I got one from my LFS store or at least that is what they called it. Googling Phantom shrimp you can't find anything except Ghost shrimp. I have those in my FW tanks and it is nothing like them. The closest I can get to discribing him is a CLEAR Sexy shrimp. Has the same white dots on it as the sexy shrimp but he is see through. Had a couple of blue spots like around joints too. I would give you a pic but I thought I had one but I don't. He is missing too.

You see my sig....nothing that I know would kill shrimp and my cleaners are doing great. Molting often. The only thing that isn't on my sig is 2 green clown gobies but they came after the missing shrimp.

Any ideas or did they just go to the hiding evil in my tank that also killed a flame angel and a coris wrasse?

Look in your sump. I have found mine in there several times.

I have also went months without seeing any peppermint shrimp in my larger tank then they just appear one day again. They know how to hide very well.

If you are keeping them for the ability to view them regularly you will probably be disappointed.

I don't know from your sig but do you have any hermit crabs?

I hate to say it but maybe they ate them!? My hermit (big big halloween hermit) continuously harassed my cleaner shrimp...he moved fast for a hermit, kinda scary but i woke up one morning with the antennae's of shrimp sticking out of his shell...maybe my shrimp (possibly yours too) died of other reasons idk, but the hermits make quick with whats left over.

another idea could be the pistol shrimp? I'm not sure!!! I'm sorry about your shrimps being MIA...:( hopefully they're in your sump or just really good at hide and go seek...

+1 on pistol. Those things can be highly predatory. Easily could feast on the peppermint shrimps. But thats just a possibility. They could be hiding. They can squeeze into the pores of the rocks. They are hiding experts.

could be a pistol shrimp, fire worm, or mantis they are all masters of hiding and all like to dine on peppermints and skunks

I would think I would hear the pistol setting off his claw. Everyone says you would hear it and I am a light sleeper and everything in the house wakes me up. Plus if that were the case I would think my cleaners wouldn't be around either.

There is no way they could get in my sump. My holes into my overflow are way too small for them. My green clown gobies have gone down there but nothing else could get down there.

The peppermints could be around but I doubt it. I didn't get them to look at I know what great hiders they are and like I said I can see 95% of all the spots in my tank unless you are talking underneath the rocks.

I do have hermies but aren't shrimp faster than that?

Any idea of the "phantom" shrimp? It was really cool and I would like to get another if I can find the correct name of it and hope that the evil in the tank doesn't get him too!

if something was dining on your shrimp you would have to see some pieces of them around the tank, especially with 3. i had a "mated" pair in my old setup that i thought had died for about 6 months untill i saw the cave they where living in underneath a rock, hopefully you have an undiscovered cave that they are retreating too.

I found my Phantom shrimp. Well not in my tank but on the internet. It is called an anenome shrimp. They aren't known to hide so why would he have disappeared?
