I deleted a couple of posts for review by other mods.

Just a friendly reminder. There are reasons why 3Reef avoids political, racial, and religious threads and posts. One can be joking around with someone they've posted with for the last 6 months and it can be funny or they won't be offended. However, to a new member who has only been around 3 days, they don't have the "history" with that member yet, and can easily be offended.

Most become ineffective. Some become toxic (I believe Tetracycline is one of these). I had an individual phone in with complaints of her albuterol inhaler giving her tachycardia (rapid heart rate). I asked her what the expiration date was. A few years ago she said. That is one that actually gets more powerful with age. Good thing she had no arrhythmia problems. So I got her a new one and she was right as rain........

That makes sense about the antibiotic. I recall an article a year or so ago about the military; and how they do NOT dispose of medications. The rationale was to save money. The claim was that many medications do not lose efficacy over time.

As a personal experience, I lost my father 3 years ago, and inherited his hunting items. My father prided himself in the "be prepared" aspect of hunting, and took pleasure in being the one guy who infact did have stainless steel wire and small circles of green felt for stitching a tent, or cushioning a recent blister. Anyways; in a small satchel I found a bottle of vicoprofin off a prescription filled in 1989. You'd think that a pill which expired 19 years ago would have lost its narcotic effect. Not the case. When my back hurt bad enough two years ago I took one.

I suppose it depends on the chemical. I do have a bottle of erithromycin 4 years past it's prime that I'd been holding on to, and will now toss thanks to John's advice.
