Dont know if it makes of a difference with bulb types, but I have 2x UVL actinic T5's and a 14000K SPS MH, and the overall look with everything cranking really isnt all that blue. I know you want a slightly bluer tinge, so you will probably want to go higher. But again, thats with the T5/MH combo, and I dont know exactly how much of a difference it might be with just straight T5's

I just went with tangster and that guys bulb recommendation and I am not disappointed. I like the bluer look to and I tell you what I really like the combo I have. But then again you might like it a little bluer but to each its own. Hope you get it soon john. I looked at that guys tank pic and how could I go with something else.

    Testing, etc

Well, it has been a few weeks since I posted my own thread, so here it goes. A few things. RIP my Red Coris Wrasse. First it was there, then it wasn't. Cannot figure out what happened. Params are good. Must have come down with fish cancer or something.

My Coral Beauty had a bad case of fin rot. Very bad. I had given it a 50% chance of survival when I first noticed it. I fed it food soaked in garlic and melafix for three consecutive days and waited for improvement. Saw improvement almost immediately. Good stuff Melafix and garlic. Fins and coloration are almost 100%.

Lately, I have been concerned with my ammonia and nitrates. Since I switched to the 90g, I have had a cycle going. I tested the other day and ammonia was finally zero. Yippee. About time.

    Parameters:

    Temp: 77
    NH4: 0
    NO2: 0
    NO3: 20
    pH: 8.2
    Ca: 440
    Mg: 1640
    dKh: 12
    PO4: Low--present

My Ca:Mg ratio is off. I think I messed up and just flat out double dosed my tank, raising my Mg by 200 instead of 100 the last time I dosed. So the plan is to keep my dKh at between 15 and 18, raise my Ca to about 500 and bring everything down in unison to my usual levels (460, 1500, 12-15)

So that's it. My wife did let me get a coral over the weekend. $20 got me a few Xenia starters. My third attempt at keeping these buggers. They are the pulsating type. Good to have around. When the Xenia looks bad.....something is wrong with your tank......Or the humbug damsel is snacking. Or both.

And just for the heck of it......a few pics of my Zoa rocks. The second pic focused on the damsel....which is pretty cool IMHO.

    Tests and New Livestock!!!!

Been a little bit, so it is time to start posting to my thread again. My Yellow Tang is not doing too well. He is skinny and has two, what appear to be small blood splotches along his lateral line mid body. Ribs are apparent. I mixed Melafix and garlic with frozen brine shrimp and fed the fish. Then I coated a piece of algae with Melafix and dropped that in on a clip. When they finished that, I put in another. I let them eat until they were full. This was last night....I will repeat tonight.

A close up of the spots.....

Added one new fish (a hippo tang) and a mushroom rock. The hippo and yellow are getting along famously. I must admit, I am surprised. Acclimation has been the easiest so far. He does not hide. He is out, front and center. And that fish eats like a horse. Not shy about it at all. In the background is one of the largest Asterina stars I have ever seen in my tank.

The Mushroom Rock.....This one has purplish mushrooms with blue stripes. The other side of the rock is more populated. I have since repositioned it.

    And a half tank shot.......

Did a full spectrum test first. Testing came out as follows:

    Temp: 77
    SG: 1.0265
    pH: 8.2
    NH4: 0
    NO2: 0
    NO3: 25
    dKh: 11.8
    Ca: 440
    Mg:1620
    PO4: 0.25

All is well except for Ca, which I will bring up to 500 over two days. The dKh is a little on the low side for my taste. I will add enough bicarb to the system to bring it up to around 15. As for the PO4, I added enough Phosphat-E to bring that down to near zero.

I changed out the filter socks also. They were turning into a nitrate factory. I missed the midweek changeout. They were vewy, vewy dirty.

    Peace.......John.;D
