Does anyone know the kelvin rating for the Philips brand incandescent plant lights? I picked up a 50 watt to light my two gallons of refugium and I can't find any ratings other than in lumens.

Does anyone use this light on their tanks?

Any alternate suggestions for lighting this tiny fuge without cooking the water?

it is 2700k... however, they have equal proportions of red wavelengths which is supposedly better for plant/macro growth.
In my experiences, I had a 2700k bulb on my 20 gallon fuge for 4 months with practically no growth at all. I then switched to a 5500k CFL and my chaeto quadrupled in 2 weeks and all my other macros started growing also. Shoot for 5500-6500k and you wont need a ton of watts either, mine is like 17 or 21w over a 20 gallon fuge

2700k, I had a feeling it was around there based on how yellow it looked. I already picked up a 27 watt (says 100 watt equivalent) CFL rated at 5500k. I was going to go a bit easier on the wattage, but the next one down (75 watt equivalent whatever that is) was rated at 5000k. Glad to hear you have had success with this bulb. It is much whiter looking in the fuge than the "plant bulb" was.

If your fuge is only 2 gallons that is going to be a lot of light lol!

I know. It was the only bulb I could find with the proper color temperature. A lot of the light is going to go to lighting the bottom of my tank though because I don't have room under my tank for a reflector. Perhaps I can fashion something out of aluminum foil.

That new light is like the face of the sun in that little fuge. Thanks for all your input Dingo. I would give you some Karma but the pop-up gods say I need to spread the wealth.
