    Off topic, totally random rant.

My BlackBerry Storm (gen 1) broke this weekend. I loved the phone once I installed OS 5 on there. However, the click screen was poorly designed and after 6 months of use, it broke completely. I went to Verizon to pick out another phone after researching them and decided on the Droid Eris (I hate the way the Droid looks). I did not want to go back to a non-touch screen phone, and refuse to get the Storm 2 as I hate the new screen, find the main buttons at the bottom very hard to use (used a couple, find I have to click them 5 times before they work) and the Google search under browser has been removed and now changed to "Bing." I hate Bing. It's a useless sack of poop. (Edited my actual thoughts for 3reef).

I really like the Droid Eris. It's a comfortable phone to use, nice features, pleasing interface. One problem. It's completely loaded with non-removable social networking (expletive deleted). I hate social networking. Why people decide to get on their phone and let the entire world what they're doing, whether it is traveling, shopping, or taking a dump, is beyond me. I can't remove it, either. Not to mention, once I synched the phone with my Exchange server, there's no apparent way to change the contacts on the phone to sort by First, Last rather than Last, First. Even though on my server they're set to First, Last - without going through each contact (hundreds) and changing it manually. I have looked everywhere -does anyone know a way to accomplish this all at once??? Poor design if you ask me. At least allow FaceBook, Twitter, Flickr, etc. to be removed. Dang it.

I though maybe the Moto Droid would have the option. Nope. It's loaded with social networking (expletive deleted) as well, non removable unless you root the phone. Seems I have some hacking to do. I don't want to go back to a standard non-touch screen BlackBerry, but maybe I will have to. Oh wait. Bing is forced on them as well in future updates.

    Android is the Google OS.

    No Bing.

There is FaceBook, Twitter, and Flicker, all which I don't want on my phone, period.

I would buy the Nexus One. It is not out for Verizon yet.

I have the G1 and there are no social networking sites on it. I absolutely love it! I think it's only through T Mobile though.

Nice. My buddy has one, he likes it as well. I don't care for the looks, but I would take it if they made it for Verizon. I had T-Mobile and the service didn't work half the time when I travelled. Verizon does. I don't like Verizon (horrible customer service), but at least my phone works. But now they're forcing shovelware down my throat with these stupid social networking apps. Oh yea, Amazon MP3 isn't removable on there, either, on both the Droid Eris and Droid.

Sorry, I'm in a very foul mood.

    :( Take a deep breath!

I'm not a fan of how the G1 looks either, but it's easier for me because I can carry it in a purse - so the size and weight doesn't matter much to me. I have TMobile because it's the only service that works well out where I live, but I have noticed when traveling in some more remote areas the coverage is crappy.

iPhones can be used on T-Mobile and other GSM networks. Verizon is CDMA only and would not support the iPhone. Supposedly a CDMA version of the iPhone will be released later this year and if that is the case I may buy it.

Then again, Apple is not happy with Google for releasing their own phone and there are rumors that the Google search / maps functions on the iPhone may be removed to be replaced by Bing and the Google / iPhone partnership may end. When the Nexus One is released for Verizon I will replace the Eris with that. If it has Social Crapworking on there I will root the phone when the hack is available and remove them. I'm trying to get information on how to accomplish that on the Eris now. I don't like people telling me what can be on my phone.
