per the directions on the pura phos it stated that you could add many months worth of the gfo for filters that are not maintainanced regularly, plus I only filled the reactor less than halfway so I don't believe I even dosed as much as recommended for my size tank.

GFO is a good thing. but keep in mind any change to your water quality will cause a reaction. your phosphates looked really high from what i read in your original post. i wasn't dealing with algae problems but decided ahhh why not get a phosphate checker. i did and mine were at 0.14 well i realized they needed to be a lot lower. so i have been doing a lot of reading. and the best route is GFO and have added one with a lower dose that recommended running in it, phosphates are slowly dropping, also kalk is said to lower them. but thats debatable from what i have read.
to remove the reactor is i believe not a good move. ride it out...maybe remove some media from the reactor.
these company's state an amount ...because they need to give you and idea on how much to use. its not bible. and really they have limited space on the container. read read read is all i have to say about any thing new you plan to use.

GFO is suppose to get changed every month. It eventually gets some type of carbonate on it and it becomes ineffective. When you start off you only put a small part in and build up to your tank size from what I've read.

im saying they clearly state it does not leach back in the first sentence . this is the brand i bought . i went in the local fish store looking for phosban. they didn't have it they had rowaphos. pricier but listed by many as better . so i bought it. i think phosban runs a close second from all i have read and price is much better.

i also did read one article that states they (GFO) all are the same. i really dont know if its true or not. so i bought one i read many people liked.

the brand you bought also states after reading.... that it does not leach back as do every GFO brand i have read about. i have not tried a bunch of these GFO's maybe someone who has tried many brands can chime in. i honestly cant say from personal experience that ones better than another. i just went with what i read
