Was woundering how well a phosphate reactor works towards algea (GHA). Is it worth getting one or not? Also if you have one what do YOU put in it and from where?

do you test for PO4 currently? if so whats it testing at? also, whats your water source?

a reactor will remove the PO4 from the tank, but you may have some larger problem causing the GHA. in my case it was the source water I was using. it wasnt fully stripped of all its TDS. changed the filters on the RO unit and its back to normal.

a quick general answer, YES it will reduce the amount of nutrients available for the GHA.

I have tested for it and it read 0 (bc i have GHA and its useing it up). My sorce water is my ro/di system and filters where replaced around 3 months ago. My light is a little old (around 8 to 9 months for a MH but just ordered a new one). I only have 1 fish, blue damsel uugggg!!. Only feed him maybe once a week and hes fat. Its been eating some of the algae.

well afaik GHA will retreat if you remove its nutrient source and light. if you have a reactor it will certainly help suck up the nutrients. how much GHA is there? can you just nuke the rock its on, or maybe if you dont have corals reduce the light cycle a bit until its gone?

i had some GHA in my tank, and it went away when i started running carbon/phos (im not using a reactor just a micron bag with the powder in it at the moment using kent products). i also reduced light output for a week. i only had one fish in the tank and no corals so i was able to go no light. oh and i forgot to mention that my emerald crab ate the remaining GHA, and because it couldnt propogate with 0 phosphates and 0 light source it didnt come back.

I do have coral so 0 light out (if your talkin more than one day). If a reactor would at least help i will get one. If i do get one is the two little fishies reactor good??

I had the same problem... PO4 reading zero but GHA everywhere... added a Bulk Reef Supply GFO/GC Dual reactor and bingo.... GHA all gone...
