I noticed a lot of hair algae in my tank recently so last night I added Phosban. My tank is 80 gallons, so I added 50 grams of Phosban. Within a couple hours, my Blue Hippo Tank was turning white and started hiding under a rock. He also didn't seem to be swimming very well. I tested my PH and it was at 8.0. Usually it's about 8.1 -8.2. Does anyone know what could have caused this. I removed the Phosban last night and the Tang was still hiding under the rock this morning. He came out and ate when I put some seaweed in, but his color still didn't look good and he seemed to be struggling to swim.

Do you think the slight change in PH could have stressed the Tang?

I doubt it..It was a very small change. How are you using the Phosban? In a bag? reactor?

In a media bag in the sump.

Phosban uses ferric oxide, this is not going to harm your tang. I suspect a coincident and something else caused your issue. I assume you checked everything?

For better results on the media it should be in a reactor so water is forced to travel through it. a bag in the sump probably permits water to travel around the bag reducing its capabilities

Anyother signs on the hippo? cloudy eyes, scratching, breathing issues ?

Is the Tang still eating and swimming ok? If so, just let things settle out. I would not run Phosban in a media bag. It is basically granulated Iron. It will turn into a brick if it does not have flow through it. I would look into a reactor.

No, no other signs. He ate some seaweed this morning and was swimming around, though he seemed to be struggling a little. I've had him for almost a year and never seem him like this. Any recommendations on a good reactor? Thanks.....
