Thanks for all the good info folks. AZDR, a few questions:1) does aluminum leach constantly, or just when phosguard is exhausted 2) is there a way to test for aluminum in the water column? 3) how concerned should I be about aluminum in (I assume) small amounts. 4) does carbon help with reducing aluminum?
I've been using phosguard for about 6 months and phosphates are generally >.05 (Hanna low range)

As I look over at my 125 reef while I read this- I can't help but chuckle a bit.
I'll admit I've always used less the the published recommeded amount however- and rarely change it.
But that's just my experience- I run on a closed track and I'm a trained professional in a modified vehicle. Don't try this at home ;-) I'm also just finishing my first beer today. ;-)

I wouldn't worry like todd said. I've ran successful tanks and my current reef tank with only seachem supplements and couldn't be happier. I trust seachem all the way. My reef tank is growing like crazy with seachems aquavitro line and params are always stable. I never have alk, ph or other imbalances.

thanks for the pointers Todd and DSC. I guess i'll keep using phosguard and run a little less than recommended.
