    having abit of trouble with hair algae. nitrates and phosphates were high manage to get them down using brightwell reef biofuel. now my phosphate is 0.01 and my nitrate down to 10 but it wont go any lower.hair algae isnt getting any worse but still there.can i use fluval clearmax and the reef biofuel at the same time.????

    look into details on vodka dosing as the organic carbon is responsible for removing the main nutrients - phosphate and nitrates.


    I'm currently looking into this as well. It seems like all vodka dosers have undetectable phosphates and nitrates.

    If you run a canister filter get a nitrate bag and put it in the canister. What kind of water do you use?

    Ro.been using fluval clearmax for 4 days now nitrate slowly dropping. Can I still use a brightwell reef biofuel.

    As long as the nitrates are dropping you should be fine, once you get a good established amount of beneficial bacteria they will be able to control the nitrates naturally... until you add more livestock, in which case you will have a period of higher nitrates until the tank can stabilize.

    Yes, keep doing what you're doing and once the nitrates are at a stable level you can stop using clear/bio and see if they remain at 0.
