So my refugium and skimmer is working great and my cheato that I almost lost is now a big green afro, plus I've got some nice grape caulerpa that's also growing fine. Is Phosphate removal now redundant? All my corals are fully extended and the fish are happy.

I am not 100% that chaeto removes phosphates. I know mangroves do.

Redundancy is not a bad thing. I have chaeto, mangroves and run a reactor. SPS are picky.

Ok, but no SPS, maybe next year. I'm still in the throes of a learning curve. I like to do things you're not supposed too just to see what happens, because that's how I learn.

Yeah, I would wait. SPS are really the only thing that cares about phospates. Everything else can take a little of them.

Your cheato will take care of everything else.

If you see any PO4 when you test for them its never a good thing on any system.. PO4 like NO3 if left unchecked will keep on building up and then become diffused into the sand rocks and anything that is porous as if its in dissolution it will permeate anything then you will start to notice them when the algae issues start then you have to fight for months to get them under control,, Its never to soon to start keeping PO4 and NO3 under control.
