You could try adding macro algea to your sump/fuge if you have one.. I stocked the empty area in my sump with live rock (or even dry rock if you want) and that helped me out. This will increase the amount of denitrifying bacteria in your reef, thus lowering your nitrates and keeping them low.. I have had good luck keeping low nitrates because I have many sources of biomedia.. DSB, macro algea, Seachem Matrix biomedia, and a lot of LR. I also suck out detirtus in areas where it collects often. I even use a powerhead to blow off the detritus stuck in the LR in my display monthly.

Thank you for the prompt and detailed response. This definitely helps out. Now I just need to add a overflow and sump/fuge to my tank and I feel like I would have the tank where I want it to be.

Well I do not have a sump or fuge yet, I was going to wait until after the holidays (I have two people who have birthdays at the end of November, and two that are in December, so it will be a tight couple of months money wise) to install a sump with a HOB overflow. I just need to find a tank that is large enough and will fit under my crappy stand...can be no longer than 29 inches!

I agree. The over flow and sump are positive assets worth the investment.
