So my question is, if the purpose of the phosphate reactor is to take the phosphates out of the water that are there from the tap, I should be able to just run one on a barrel of water I use for water changes and therefore all water I add into the tank will be phosphate free, correct? Do phosphates leach from any organisms/rock in the tank? The only reason Im considering this instead of on the sump is due to the congestion that is already down there...Its not the largest cabinet when theres a big arse sump down there...hah. Any opinions?

I get what you're trying to do by stopping the PO4 from getting into the tank. However, PO4 also comes from feeding your tank, among other sources within the tank. Hence why many of us have to run reactors & GFO media still even when we are using pure RO/DI water only.

Agree with MoJoe, food is the major source. I just spend the day researching and convinced myself to upgrade from GFO as my media in my reactor to EcoBak, a new product coming out by Warner Marine. EcoBak does the phosphate job of GFO and it reduces nitrates. Pretty cool stuff as I read about it.

I'll have to check into that EcoBak, I currently run Chemi Pure Elite in my reactor which is cool as it combines PO4 remover and high quality carbon, no complaints with it & my Po4 is always at 0.

I don't have any connection either. I just called Warner Marine and they took care of me. Jon Warner is VERY nice, explained a bunch to me. Great guy.

    Just call them....

A GFO reactor doesn't sit inside the sump. It's a canister (or two) that just needs a pump out of the sump, and a line going back in.

Wish I could put an RO/DI unit in here...I rent tho...landlord said no. haha. I did just find out that you can get RO water by the 5 gal tub at Dominicks here in Chicago, so hopefully Jewel has it too and Ill just use that for my water. Still wont hurt to use the reactor...I can fit it under the cabinet, but with the sump, ballast, timers, etc. its gettin stuffy. I need a cubby...haha

Nonsense. You can hook it up to the faucet on the sink. No modifications to the plumbing required.
