Hey all!!!! I have a quick question. I added 2 capfuls of phosphate removal to my sump last night to clear up the 1ppm that was present for awhile in my tank. The water got cloudy as directed and today my tang looks like he is breathing a little faster and more rapidly. He seems to be swimming fine and ate, but I wonder if the phosphate removal chemicals have stressed him out?

What are some cons about phosphate chemicals?

Could be a dissolved oxygen issue, how are you set for surface agitation and water movement? Do you have a sump?

Could be, because I have looootttss of LR and it creates tons of dead spots. Only a wavemaker and small powerhead for surface movement. But the powerhead is connected by syphon-assist to the overflow tank down to my sump. There are BB in there and an Aqua-Clear EV120 PS. So there is much movement around my tank but not IN the actual tank itself. I think I need to buy a couple more powerheads.

Mine does the exact same thing. But, it does it with calcium supplementation as well. I think they just get a little nervous because of the cloudy water. Nothing more, nothing less. This wouldnt happen to be a psycho hippo tang would it?

Liquid miracle cures will not remove phosphates, they may bind or mask them but they are still there. Granular Ferric Oxide (GFO or products like Phosban) removes phosphates by providing a surface for them to bind or stick to which you then remove and throw away.
