Just wondering what the recommended phosphate remover is. Had water tested and phos was high. Was reading gfo is good but not sure how to place it.

Removing the phosphate is only treating the symptom, not the problem. You can use GFO in media reactors or a mesh bag placed in the sump. GFI works great as well. There are also products that will precipitate phosphate if you need to rapidly lower the levels (although not faster than 1 ppm per day).

The larger question you should be asking yourself is where are these phosphates coming from? Are you feeding excessively? How often are you changing the water? Usually good husbandry will yield low phosphate levels.

How high are they, and where do you think it's coming from?

+1 on trying to figure out why your phosphate is high. There are some commercial dry foods also contain excess nutrients and other undesirable things like nitrates, phosphates etc so I strain/rinse my fresh/frozen foods before feeding my tank. You may want to consider feeding your fish less often. Also using RO/DI water and a high quality salt with little if any NO3, phosphates etc like Tropic Marin will really help too.

I'd say find the source of the phosphates first, otherwise you'll simply be throwing money away over the long haul.

Have you gotten your source water tested? and do you use RODI or tap?
