Can anybody recommend an effective phosphate remover media without having to buy a reactor. I tried Phosguard from Seachem and placed it into my HOB box fileter. It reduced some but not nearly enough. (and, yes I know, lots of water changes would help too...)

i have a 29g biocube and my current method of removing phosphates is by taking out chunks of my calerpra macro algae(grows like crazy). still a newb when it comes to this sort of stuff but i have kept my corals looking very happy and have not lost anything in this tank yet (my first saltwater tank)

Nothing wrong with above suggestion IMHO

Rowaphos is reasonably effective when used in a mesh pouch in an external filter IME
keep the amount you use low, and change it more often is most effective means of use, with this method

use 1 table spoonfull for a week, then discard and replace
us it like this for 4 weeks ( check phosphate levels weekly)
once they are reading zero , you can then increase to 2 tablespoons in the mesh pouch
and leave it maybe 1 month before changing out ( the frequency for the need to scrape glass , is often a better indicator of when to change phosphate remover, then the results from a typical test kit)
