Yeah I did. I did follow the instructions as stated above. If curious, put some floss below the output and check it out. It was enough to bug me. But I am easily bugged.

Thanks Evolved. I did as curt suggested and your description of the flow rate does make sense, as that is exactly how the media looks in the reactor (dances). So, I guess I adjusted the ball valve correctly. How long did it take before you saw a drop in your phosphates? And how soon after adding the phosban should I test again?

Phosphate dropped to near zero in about 24 hours, using 150 grams in the reactor in my total water volume of 120 gallons. I test everything weekly, which might be overkill, but the first time my phosphates begin to rise, I'll know to change out the media.

You can get the pellet type GFO from bulk reef supply. Is is supposed to hold up better in reactors so you get less dust (the brown stuff). Plus its cheaper in bulk. :)

Thought I should give everyone who responded to my question an up-date. My phosphates were 00.08 before I used the Phosban and were 0.00 24 hrs. after using the Phosban and reactor. Good stuff.

Hey thats awesome. Were you using RowaPhos by chance? I just saw where you mentioned it was the fine brown stuff. I've been using rowaphos but have yet to get a decent phosphate test kit to measure. What kit did you use too if you dont mind me asking?.?.

Hey CrazyA, I used Phosban as the media and I tested with the Hanna Instruments "Checker" for phosphates. When I used the API test kit for phosphates, I would consistently get a reading of 0. However, when I tested with the Checker, I consistently got readings of 00.06. So, I sent a sample of my water to Aquarium Water Testing and they got a reading of 00.08. When I got the results from AWT, I re-tested with the Checker and got the same reading (00.08) as AWT. Apparently, the Checker was the more accurate of the two testing devices. Therefore, my need to use the Phosban and reactor. You might want to bring a water sample to your LFS and see what they get. Good luck.

Hey CrazyA, I don't know why the "cool face" appears but my re-test with the Checker was 00.08
