In normal tank perhaps, in a reef...no. I can't remember the last time I fed my fish, probably some time last summer. And even that feeding would have been for the entertainment of some guests. The reef will provide and they can graze as many times a day as they would like.

This depends on the size of your system and the number and type of fish, but to give general advice of only feed your fish 2-3 times a week and now this post to say just don't feed your fish will result in most cases suffering and dead fish in your system.

This is getting rediculous, you need to take responsiblity for your animals (fish). This means providing for them so that they can lead as natural a life as possible without stress. This means providing food, not hoping that your system can provide for them.

I honestly dont see anything wrong with feeding 2-3x a week. It all depends on the size of tank and number/size of inhabitants. I was advised to feed only 2-3x weekly and my tank began to flourish. I couldnt figure out what was going wrong before hand, but now it looks better than ever. Fish/inverts are happy, healthy and colorful and living harmoniously. Corals look great too.
I know that some have soft spots for living creatures, but theres no need to get nasty with each other is there? After all, what good will it do the creatures you're getting upset over?

Animal welfare in the UK is regulated and there are massive implications. Where I work I would get fired and prosecuted for only feeding fish 2-3 times a week, and would end up in a lot more trouble with the law if I didn't feed them at all. I am massively involved in the welfare of fish and the law and this would not be acceptable in the UK.

That's interesting. Alas, things are different the world over. Not everything can be as we would hope or wish it to be. Cultural differences can be quite a shock when its so different from what we are taught is right. :p
You do a good thing then by keeping your livestock fat and happy. While it may cause you to work harder at keeiping things in balance, K+;D for standing up for what you believe. However it doesn't excuse unnecessary name calling:-/. Just gotta keep in mind that everyone every where is different and laws are different too. ;)

I'm hoping I'm not adding to the arguing, but I have what may be a dumb question.

Instead of feeding 2-3x per week, would it be more reasonable to feed the same amount of food, but break it up into daily feedings?

So, instead of feeding one cube of food 2x a week, instead feed 1/4 cube per day. Both would result in almost 2 cubes per day. (This is just an example, total amount of food would vary per tank).

I can understand if you have some quick feeders and some slow feeders to put more food in at once so all would have time to feed though...

Yes this would be the ideal scenario.
