if you're wondering how to rinse frozen food... depending on the particular frozen variety of course...

what I do is thaw it out in RO or tank water (like a shot glass) and use a spoon to scoop out the food and drain the water into the glass (I kind of press the spoon to the inside side of the glass and let the water run through the crack) leaving all the dirty water in the glass.

that one extra step (vs just putting the whole piece into the tank) could save you significant amounts of phosphates from entering the system.

Did I read somewhere I should place the frozen food in a coffee filter to rinse?

Arguing on the site sucks! to. Especially about something as broad and generalized as feeding. Scientific data would even have a hard time with the varying feeding regimens. Argue privately please. And atleast argue about something better than feeding.

Im off duty so Ill just speak my mind

I think its a shame that 3 very nice people - people that I have communicated with several times either on threads or privately , are struggling to get along on this thread

Crimson ghost is a kind, decent, helpful person whose fish I garauntee are healthy and full - irrespective of any direct action on his part to contribute to that

Invert Phil is a very intellegent reef aquarist who raises the bar on some of his threads and offers some very interesting posts on branches of the hobby

we have a situation where 2 very good people IMHO have a difference of opinion and its got a bit out of hand

there is no-one right or wrong in this situation - everyone does things differently to a degree and thats what makes it interesting

    shake hands guys
accept that both of you are good people ( take my word for this please)

and dont let it influence any future threads , please

I ask you this as Steve Wright - not in any other capacity

    Steve

Wow! What an entertaining thread! ;D

Regmo123: Please let us know how your tank is doing after running the GFO for a while. I use a Phosban 150 reactor with RowaPhos & a little carbon. It's worked very well for me. Good luck! :)

So - back to the plot !!

I've now bought a Phosban 150 Reactor. Arrived this morning so will instal it today. Just got to work out how best to set it up in my sump. Ideally I'd want to put it in-line using the return pump but I think that's going to be too powerful (Eheim 1250). So if I set it up with a separate pump (eg MJ400) then should I situate it with the skimmer (1st chamber of the sump), the chaeto (2nd chamber) or bio balls and retun pump (3rd chamber)?

As for feeding - seems pretty clear I'm over-doing it and not rinsing the frozen stuff. Gonna drop the feeds a bit (but probably still daily). The clowns are looking a bit hungry this morning !!

A phosban reactor can not handle that much flow – you will blow off a hose and make an utter mess. Your target flow should be about 100 gph – read the instructions that came with it. I use to use a reactor similar to this before switching to the Pentair – for security and peace of mind I used zip ties to secure the tubes the tubes.

Edit - sorry, forgot to answer placement. Yes, add it to the first section with the skimmer. I have mentioned that I am not a fan of all in one refugium and sumps, but irrespective of that keep your equipment pre refugium to permit the pods to reach your tank. I do agree with others that posted that pre-fuge equipment in a fast moving sump will not starve the refugium – slow moving a different story.

Enjoy hooking up your new equipment – always is a joy !
