    :( :( :(

Not even one little "nemo" egg left somewhere about?

Do eggs need their parents about to hatch?

    Condolences to "Marlin" & "Coral"

I know they need to protect them but with other fish darting in to feed on them it is impossible to protect 24/7.

Does not seem that you should have to "Protect" them. They should do for themselves..or is it tank raised fish have lost most "instinct" to very aggressivily protect offspring as they do in wild.

Expect may be so, as strong aggressive attributes are not "selected" features in fish for home reef aquariums.

Maybe it something that has to be "learned" after losing first couple of "clutches" - bet they will take better care of next bunch. - have seen such in raising cockatiels in past. Young birds do not know how to properly care for (or protect) new eggs. They do much better at it as they get older. May take 5-6 egg laying cycles before they get a successful "hatch" -- then a couple of more before successfully raising hatchlings.

Takes much "patience" on keepers part. Success rate greatly increased if taken from "general" population..but then "nature" does not take its course, and no "learning" takes place. Expect might be so in Aquarium.

Not inclined (at least for now) to becoming a fish "breeder" and having to deal with additional equipment and "lots" of offspring - I think I would tend to just wait and let "nature" determine if couple and tank, "earned" some offspring.

Just pure speculation here & speaking in complete ignorance of whole fish breeding cycle needs.

Watching complete cycle of laying, birth to early care would sure make interesting watching. Certainly hope to in my tank one day.

Most fish rather be it wild or in the tank will instinctly protect eggs and young fish.
Now some new FWF will keep eating the newly laid eggs withing 24 hours and never learn to let the hatch. (I have a pair of FW Angelfish that do this all the time) Some fish get it right away.
But in my case the Mandarin got to the eggs and I knew there was nothing I could do about it.
