I was planning on ordering a phyto culture because I think it would be cheaper then buying it from my lfs.

They make their own and its pretty good stuff. Do I need to get a culture from an aqua farm or can I just take their stuff and start cutting it to make my own?

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Many of the live phyto products sold via LFS's contain a mix of several different species. If you're buying it and watch the expiration date, this can be of great value.

However, when culturing your own, you want one and only one species during the culturing process. If you want to culture several species in several different bottles, tanks, etc. (however you're doing it) and then combine them later, that's fine.
