I was actually going to try growing mine by using the directions here

    Melevsreef.com - Phytoplankton

I've heard you can start it from the bottle of live stuff like DT's from the LFS.

I've cultured few thousand gallons of it. I have about 400 gals now for sale from our commercial culturing operation in Va. :) P/M me I'll explain how we grow it out. Not easy to do properly lots of work to keep the cultures pure .. A bad culture can mess the tank up fast..

No you want to start with a pure culture not a bottle of D.T's thats a way but not the better way . A proper culture comes sterile and in a culturing petri dish on a dry media.

To grow green water is very simple and is very easy to do. But you have to do it correctly . There was lady about 10 yrs ago up in Canada somewhere she and I talked a few times she had a site up with her little jugs on a shelf and she cultured a bad batch . Last I heard it wiped their tank out. Easy to do but if you do it properly its not that hard but there are certain guide lines you have to follow . And you have to keep the cultures clean. Contamination is a issue
