What is the difference between a percula/false percula clown and a picasso clown? Is it just their stripes? And what would be a good price for one?

They got some in at my LFS but I didn't get a chance to ask them

yea, i just called them and they said they were 80...i think they are out of my price range anyway (even if it is a good price). Perhaps I will just settle on a regular false perc. I have a clown fish void in my life

what ever you do don't settle for a fish. get what you want no matter the price. these fish live 10-20 years. don't think of it as paying for a fish, think of it as improving a significant portion of your life. for the next 20 years you could be wondering what if. you remember that hot girl you met but you never asked out. this is the same thing except more long term lol.
besides there is worse stuff you could buy.

while i agree with your statement about not settling on a fish, my expendable income is extremely small. I honestly can't afford to spend more than 30 dollars on a fish if I want to eat anything but ramen noodles for the next week. I did have two percs before and I liked them alot (the ich got them while i was on winter break). It's been about two months since they died and I have decided that I would always like to have at least one clown in my tank. I just dont think i have to spend 80 dollars to find a fish that I will enjoy when there are so many personable species of fish in my price range

Yeah, it's a mutation in the color pattern gene. At any rate, very cool fish. You can always take the perc back when you have the income too.

Picassos are generally priced depending on their grades. There are 3 grades I think...grade B, grade A and snowflake. The number of bars touching (or white) increases from grade B to snowflake. Grade B just has a little more white or maybe one strip touching. With Snowflakes, there is really no stripe patter, just a lot of white. Of course the more white the more the price.

I bought a pair of grade B picassos at my LFS and got a great deal...$100 for the pair. But you have to understand that I spend a lot at this store and they do give me good deals on the higher end livestock...I think they were like $100 piece.

The female died a few months later. A couple weeks ago I bought a grade A picasso. They charged me $100 for that fish. I am unsure if I got a discount on that one or not....however I think I did!

You have to be comfortable with the amount of money you spend on the livestock. If right now you can not afford a picasso, and really want it, then wait. I would not recommend going and getting another clown just to have one at this point..because you will always want the picasso. However if you know that you WILL never want to spend that amount of money on a fish..then find another fish that you really want to get and get it. IMO I would not spend $100 for a grade B picasso..they dont look that much different from some of the other clowns. However I would for a grade A and definately would for a snowflake. And I know some that would not take a snowflake if they were paid to take it! So each their own
