so someone can correct me, but i believe that the lower K is better for growth. is the bluer range simply for aesthetic purposes? or is there another benefit for going blue?

 

ok, so i said nuts to democracy, i'm a philosopher after all (if you didn't get that go read Plato's Republic, you heathen), and i went with the Phoenix 14K. i liked what i read in the reviews from Marine Depot, i liked what i saw from Tatted's pictures and i also like the price tag. let me tell you, the color is amazing! everything is glowing like i hooked up a black light. below you can see the same coral, first is under the stock current 10k and the other is the Phoenix. best purchase i have made on my tank yet. you can see a video of the tank and more pics on my update thread here http://www.3reef.com/forums/show-off-your-fish-tanks/video-picture-heavy-72385.html

 

Higher K rating in the region of 14000K and actinic wavelengths has been associated with higher PAR ratings therefore better photosynthetic light and suggested better growth rates.
