Further than I thought. I'm way out in Lombard, even though the picture of that montipora makes me want to drive out there. Nice Loot though!

if you want a nice coral shop try advanced aquatics in Schaumburg. i've been in there a couple of times. good looking stuff at fair prices (i dont know if they offer a membership discount or anything). they have an outrageous amount of coral. and dont worry about the monti, at some point i will frag it and my fellow 3reefers will be the first to know.

in regards to the smoking bit, dont paint me as the tea-tottling, straight lacer. while i can't stand most cigarette smoke, you will occasionally see me smoking a fat cigar and drinking as early as 10 in the morning... provided my front 9 was bad enough. i don't know why it is but a few beers will make my slice disappear;D

Tatted scared me so i ran back to AA ad snatched this puppy up. an Acan Lord, i was told, i absolutely love the color combo. it's actually a pretty good size, its on the biggest plug i've ever seen.

unfortunately this ends my magical coral shopping spree. the wife brought the hammer down. i am only allowed to acquire new corals by trading off frags or bought with gift money. fret not, friends! i knew this day would come. it was inevitable from the moment i decided to start a reef on a newly wed grad student's salary, or lack there of. corals are pretty but my wife is prettier, i think i should worry about keeping her happy.

Advanced Aquatics is usually on the high side of pricing. Nice store though, and I can't say any bad things about them because they give the Wisconsin Reef Society deals when we load up the charter bus and go to their shop and other shops in N Illinois.

That is an acan lord, of the standard Indonesian variety. It is just like one of my acans in my tank zj, but you don't want to know how much I paid for mine. Granted it has grown since I got it, but it was still a great deal.

Regarding your coral spending habits, once you let the ones you got get big enough, you won't mind fragging a little piece off and trading that for different coral.

In order to do that though, you usually need to get a little coral garden going first. it is one of those pay to play things;)

yeah, you guys actually came up while i was there. he just laughed and said that you guys must have a heck of a time on the way down. i guess by the time you guys get there you're the life of the party.

As for the fragging, i was checking out your little magnet/eggcrate selves in your tank. i wouldn't be fragging for any sort of monetary gain or on a large scale so i figure i could probably build one of those fairly cheap and stick it on a magfloat or something. i could throw that in my DT in the back for my stonies and use my desk pico for the softies. piece of cake!

I highly recommend Advanced Aquatics also. That is my main LFS. 75% of my purchases have been from Advanced. Glen over there is filled with endless knowledge and have never second guessed anything that has been said about reefing.

He does have a membershipship discount. Membership is paid yearly or for a lifetime.

From my experience with LFS's here in chicago Advanced is definitely fairly priced if not great in terms of his livestock.

If your talking about beyond the reef.... then I couldnt agree with you more ;)
