My wife and have been wanting a tang for our 55 reef, but due to the size our choices were limited. We got a scoaps tang that was doing great for three day until dropping dead for no reason, and i waited a couple of months before adding my rainfordi goby. Since the goby and my damsel got on so well, we picked up a Yellow Eye Kole Tang from the store. He ate flake food well at the LFS and seemed healthy and fat the last two weeks, and is currently hiding in my reef, though he will come out every so often if he thinks we aren't looking. Anybody have any tips to combat SNTDS (Sudden new tang death syndrome) ?

PS: added 'new' to the acronym for obvious reasons ;-)

It has a lot to do with how the fish was collected.

Congrats on the new fish. I wish I could tell you about SNTDS but dont really know alot about it.I dont think it shouldnt be just for tangs IMPO. maybe "New Tank Death Syndrome" would be more accurate. It probably has something to do with the way fish are collected and handled before making it to our tanks is why they die. Just My thoughts anyway

Never had a tank big enough, so I've never had a Tang. Sorry I can't help you, but pics or it didn't happen. :D
