I was at my brothers house today for the ole family Christmas party and while I was there he gave me some equipment that he no longer uses.

He gave me 2 JBJ 48" retrofit light kits, each kit has 2 bulbs: 1 10000K and 1 7100K actinic. neither one of the kits have ever been opened yet. Going to see if I can use them. I originally wanted T5 lighting but may try these for starters.

He also gave me a Aqua C protein skimmer, I'm not sure if it's the EV 180 or the EV 240. It's a slightly used unit. to small for his 300g tank so he bought a new larger one.

I also took home a Wave2K wave maker that he bought for his tank that he again never opened the box up to even look at it.

I may never use the wave maker for my tank because I think its to big for it but cool non the less.

I guess Christmas came a little early for me

Last year, every time I went over to my Dad's house, he would give me stuff. Good stuff. He was cleaning house. Sounds like what your brother's doing. Here is one piece of advise I can give you. Do what I did. Go to his house. A lot. ;D;):)

I took measurements of the skimmers footprint and it appears to be 5.75" x 9" so it looks like I have the Model EV-180. That will work perfect on my Aquarium. I cleaned it up and it looks brand new again.

The WAVE2K Wavemaker is another thing tho.
Yes it is brand new never opened, I opened it up to look at the instructions but don't see myself using it in my tank. It sounds like it would be cool to have but I don't get where I would install it. Its a center mount unit and my tank has a center overflow box. My thinking is that maybe I could mount the unit to one side if the overflow box or at the side of the aquarium. That's to say if I'm even going to use it.. Ow well I guess I will have to figure something out or sell it.
