Hello everyone again! I'm looking in to finally starting to get coral for my tank, and I've heard your opinions on which are the good ones...
Now, for a more subjective question... what's the best way to go about getting coral? Buying colonies from the LFS, buying frags online, craigslist?!

Keep in mind I'm a complete newb to coral growing.

    Thanks!

whatever happens to work out for me in a given time. I've used all those methods...

the other day, all I wanted were some little yellow star polyps... that's a cheap and easy coral... wasn't about to pay overnight shipping on something like that, so I went to a couple LFS.

If I want a large batch of a variety (yet specific) corals, I will order off the internets.

If I'm just looking for any random coral that happens to be a great price, I'll search craig's list or eBay.

ya and since your new id go to the LFS because they can give you some good information and give you food for your corals and other chemicals that you need to keep your levels correct. ps dont go to petco there idiots there that dont know what there talking about (atleast mine they are) also a great fish with alot of personality and colors are green clown goby and you can check out a six line wrasse

without commenting specifically... I tend to assume my LFS doesn't know what he's talking about and let them prove otherwise... no benefit of the doubt in this hobby for me ;)

really though, it's a good idea to research the specific coral you want here (or somewhere at least) for its needs and so forth and then go get it... the LFS will tell you whatever just so you'll buy it... impulse buys end bad quite often. it's hard to do when you see something pretty... but it's better to write it down and research it and then go back if you want it...

Also, there are a few LFS I will not buy coral from simply bc their tanks are disgusting. all kinds of algae I've never seen in my tank (like bubble) that I have no interest in introducing... some places (like liveaquaria) have very "clean" frags...

so pay attention to that too.
