I am in the process od piecing together my 40B and i had some questions for which skimmer. Tank and sump are both going to be 40Bs, tanks stock is not set in stone but will most likely be a couple Ocellaris and a Dwarf Angel and maybe another small fish. Tank will start as a FOWLR but will most likey add some softies down the road and maybe one or two sps just depends if i want to tackle sps or not. the skimmers i have looked at that i liked were the Reef Octopus NWB series and the Vertex IN series. I heard the RO NWB had crapy pumps, and after seeing the Vertex in person and in use at my lfs i have leaned twards them but im unsure if i need the 80 or the 100? I want this to be my first and last skimmer i have to buy for my tank. Which series would you put in your setup teh 80 or 100?

Thanks in advanced for any info

Either would be good, if you think you will go with SPS I would lean to the 100.

Having a hard time deciding between the Vertex IN 100 and the SWC 120 cone.

i would pick the vertex over the SWC

i have a super reef octo xs350 on a 150, ive been very happy with my skimmer, the main reason i went with this one is because they are located about an hour outside baton rouge, so replacement parts like the one i broke a couple days ago are really easy to find and pick up...

Saints Fan would the XS 160 be to much for my setup? It has alot of things I like, like the pump it uses and the small footprint. Pretty much the only things I don't like is it appears that it can't be taken part to clean and the price. But like I've said I only want to buy a skimmer once so I can save up the extra coin if need be.

i would say its a little overrated but thats not a real bad thing.... it does have some good reviews on other forums, it says that it will handle a super heavy load 100 gallon tank, and your at least looking for a 100 gallon rated skimmer, not sure how your thinking about stocking the breeder, but i always plan for a skimmer thats gonna be on a pretty heavy bio load..

but you have my word, if you get the vertex IN100, you will not be disappointed

75% of the people are running these vertex skimmers and they have been extremely impressed... if i didnt just buy my new skimmer i would have gotten a vertex..
