I am buying some live rock today from someone who purchased it about 3 weeks ago wholesale.

He has it in a 75 gallon tank in his basement curing for the past 3 weeks with powerheads, lights, etc...

My question is when I pickup the rock today should it be cured enough to just put right in my tank?

I may rinse it first just to shake off any dead stuff, but it should be cured enough right?

    Thanks!

My tank was bought from someone else who had it up for 3 years....I moved it here about 3-4 weeks ago, water, sand, rock and four fish. All levels are good except nitrates are high..around 20.

well i mena my nitrates are at like 20 or 10 i mean thats not bad its jus tthe lower the better and nitrates only come from decaying dead stuff sooo i would rinse it off just to make sure but do a few water changes incase there is something you missed

the nitrates in your tank will be high for now, because of all the decayed matter in the sand has been starred up.
    ....unfortunately
--curing of live rock take longer then 3 week.
--and yes you will hit a mini cycle, because of the new rock and the nitrates

like craft kid 21 said 5% water change(some will say more) will help your tank.

    how big is your tank?

you might be better off adding a little rock at a time.. maybe 5-10 pounds per week. if you can put the remaining rock in a big tupperware bin and have a powerhead in it with the rock... just an idea.
