I'm getting my new light later today it's and aquamedic oceanlight metal halide fixture-Aqua Medic Oceanlight 48" 2x250+1x150 HQI Combo Black

The light comes with a hanging kit. How high should I hang this fixture over my 75 gallon? It has two 250 watt bulbs on each end and one 150 watt in the middle. The middle 150 watt bulb is only used for dusk/dawn effect so it will not be on with the 250's.

I would hang it about 6-10" or so depending on what you have and how they react

That would look pretty cool but that is a lot of heat.

How are your parameters? Be careful.......You may want to, either, start the lights higher and slowly bring them to desired level, or, shorten the photoperiod and gradually bring it to desired. I was in the transition from city to RO and added mh lighting to an early tank. Bad combo..........

Did you ever pick up an ATO?

I thought I read that that light had 2 10Ks and a single 20K light. Curious to see if he changed them.

If the hanging kit is adjustable, then I would start out at 12" and work my way down from there.
