It's a little BC14 but at least I can watch some of my babies grow out while I'm at the office!

Ahhh. Nice Pickle, I see there is still a little reefer left in you. Beautiful clowns, looks like an ocean to them in that big old 14 gallon tank.

What can I say? I was walking through petsmart and saw the BC14 on clearance for $98 ... and so it began.... again.

Had a good hatch last night - I actually set up two tanks for it. Being that my last hatch was really big 300+ and I was running into trouble maintaining water quality at day 13 I was thinking if for any reason they all didn't hatch out I could transfer the pot to the second tank and feed the first. At least this way I wouldn't lose any sleep over the eggs going bad and taking out the fry. Well, they all hatched out by around midnight so I left them all in the same tank to feed and grow. I figure I'll give them a week and then split them between two new tanks. This way they'll each get a very clean tank and I'll divide the load between the two as well.

    We'll see how it goes.

I realize I'm bringing this thread back the "basics" but I've read a couple of different techniques on collecting the fry. Given your obvious success, I simply must ask.

How do you extract the eggs/fry and put them into your raising tanks? My plan is to have a pair of O's and while my intention is not breeding, I would like to support the fry should that happen. Besides, what's better than 2 clowns? (Answer: 100). I'm just trying to wrap my head around the stages and techniques for each.

Hey Pastey - My brood stock lay in clay pots, so on hatch night I simply transfer the pot to a hatching tank.

Prior to them discovering the pot though - I used to wait up all night... fry usually start hatching 1.5 to 2 hours after lights out. What I would do is shine a flash light in the corner of the tank and the light would attract them to that corner, then I'd use a cup and simply scoop them up and into the waiting larvae tank.

If you're interested in my entire process there is a sticky over on N-R where I lay it all out. Pickle’s Guide to Breeding Clowns - Nano-Reef.com Forums It's a much easier read than my thread.

All of my babies from my first hatch are gone - They all got new homes and it's kind of weird seeing them go.

I did also make a new acquisition this weekend and grabbed a mating pair of true percs.

My hope is that I can get her laying and then swap the male out with a Picasso - we'll see though - percs aren't as accepting of new partners as O's are.

Here is a quick video of one my babies in it's new owners tank with his female O:

    They look great!
Good luck with the new mating pair.
Do you sell the clownfish that you breed?

    Thanks..

Yes I do sell them - my clowns primarily go to a company that ships worldwide. I do hold some out for locals though.
