I recently purchased a Porcupine Puffer from a local family in my area. The darn thing only wants clams or oysters! The family who had him before me only fed him clams...

I'm trying to get him to eat Silversides and Krill, but he rejects them every time. He bites but does not swallow the Silversides and Krill.

Should I starve him until he eats them? I'm not sure if I can afford a clam diet :(

I fed him an oyster the other day and he swallowed the whole thing, but bites and spits out everything else, even snails. He crushes snails and leaves them...

I went through the same thing with my porcupine, Rosie, and what worked for me was to thaw store bought shrimp and hold it in the water on a skewer until sue finally went for it

The thing that got mine to eat was live food, Dont go that route, he got a taste for it and then anything that moved got eatten , 2 clowns, banner fish and even a lion fish that was about the same size as him, which i think let to his demise as he got sick shortly after he ate him. if i had to do it again i would stay away from the live food.
    Good luck!

Tyvm. I went out that night to purchase shrimp
    He absolutely loves shrimp

I understand these things beg for food.

How much should i feed? The puffer is about 2 inches wide and 5-6 inches long.
Im currently feeding him one 31/40 shrimp a day.

I have had my porcupine puffer for almost 2 years and the only thing he will eat is frozen store bought shrimp. I tried clams and silversides, but then he goes on a hunger strike until i put frozen shrimp in the tank. Good luck with your puffer......they're cool fish

depending on how big your puffer is......1 medium size shrimp per day is good. You don't have to thaw them they'll eat em' frozen. It's good for their teeth if they have to crunch on something

Try to mix the food as much as possible so the puffer will get a varied diet and will possibly easier to feed.
