this will the be my first attempt at something small. has anyone kept a 1 gallon and any advice will be much appreciated. i have a hermit a snail and a starfish in it. i plan to put a percula in it when it gets stable. it will be in a warm environment. and i dont plan to have any coral at this time. but better lighting might come in the future if i can find something to fit. i have no filtration at this point. i plan to do frequent water changes from my main tank. this will be on my desk at work so i cant do anything too wild.

here is a pic the water is still very cloudy. sandstorm

1 gallon? Boy, that's gonna be a death trap to fish. Then again, I've seen very small reefs, about 2-5 gallons and they seem to be running fine in pet shops, but no fish in them. :-/ I would think the small tanks would be prone to ammonia spikes due to bad filtration. I dunno, maybe someone else can shine some more light on this topic.

yeah i dont have a lot of confidence in it but we will see. i hope the regular water changes will take care of that.

apparently I've been seeing a lot of cool very small gobies. I think they talk about them in Dec/Jan Coral Magazine. They would work well in there.
Heat and evap would be my biggest worry. I think you should get a chiller :)

But seriously. I have seen many very small reef tanks. The biggest obstical seems to always be heat and evap. Just the smallest amount of evaporation and you have a SG spike.

Good luck and keep us up to date

it will be in a room with very constant temp. and the top is completely enclosed accept for a very small hole. 3 days has shown no evaporation. but i will watch it closer. thanks for the input. i'll check into the gobies
