I wanted to know if a Blue Spot Jawfish will have compatibility issues with shrimp...mainly a Harlequin. I can tell you that his disposition is "grumpy." He is honestly like a 2 year old..."mine! Mine! MINE!" I have seen him grab snails that enter his territory, and he just moves them away, and spits em. Never eaten any that I have seen. I am also looking to add a Melanurus Wrasse, and wanted to know if he will have any compatibility issues with shrimp as well. I will most likely add a Scarlet in a few weeks when my LFS gets one in. I have yet to find any literature stating problems, but figured I'd ask for experience here before I pull the trigger.

    Thanks in advance.

The melanarus should be fine. They're typically associated with picking at feather dusters and snails, not crustaceans.

I don't think you will have any issues with shrimp at they are quite mobile and agile.

Change of plan...I did not get the Harlequin, as it was sold before I arrived. I also did not get the Melanurus because of some spots of discoloration and lack of movement. I did however get a Wrasse that was simply labeled "Assorted Wrasse" for $30...and it has a VERY similar, as in identical, to a Red Velvet Fairy Wrasse. I also picked up a Ricordea frag. Am acclimating now, will try to get pics of the Wrasse for further confirmation ID. Thanks for the help.

Hrm, you sure the "spots of discoloration" weren't normal spots? They're supposed to have areas along the back that are lighter in color when they're male or turning male. Here's a good example of them:

These looked like wounds...lighter coloring, but with scab-like edges. He was in the tank by himself, but wouldn't move, even when a hand was in with him.

No pic of the Wrasse yet...hiding in rocks, very stressed. Got a pic of the Ric, and a couple of new Zoa's I added last week. My camera sucks with the color balance. The ric is Blue and Green center with a purple rim...neon green mouth.
