salinity is pretty low for my taste !!

But how big is this tank? the photos look very yellow. I am hoping that is due to a kitchen light or the quality of your camera, and not the light on the tank itself !!

The fish looks well, and the mandarin will require a bountiful pod population, as I am sure you know.

What can you tell us about your first saltwater build?

Cool fish! Hope you have lots of pods in there to keep the mandarin fed.

Ya its a combo of the kitchen light and a 3 mega pixel phone camera making it yellow. its a 45 gal hex tank just doing a fowlr tank, i have an artifical coral insert for them to hide and sleep in. the damsels are 3 moths old and were in the tank while it cycled and the shrimp and clown were added a week and 2 days ago and the dragonet was added a day ago it is a sumpless tank with a canister filtration system from fluval. tank has been up for three months i feed the mandrin live brine shrimp and added a bottle of tiger pods into a ball of algea and he goes up and eats them from that

Mandarin won't last long in this system, IMO. He'll clean out the pods from the algae quickly. I'd consider finding him a new home or go broke buying pods.

for starters i would suggest purchasing some live rock. very beneficial to the tank itself and also makes a much more realistic tank decoration. also the gravel your using is mainly more of a freshwater gravel type. gravel in saltwater tanks is often crushed coral. but usually sand is prefered. nice fish! good luck with that mandarin!

Well its all good with the light anyway if there are no real coral, and what looks like coral in your picture is actual artificial.

Is the mandarin eating these brine shrimp? live brine don't offer much nutritional value to the fishes diet, but he certainly won't starve if he is actually ok with eating them.

+1 on both of these. Especially needing some actual reef material in this tank if you actually plan on doing this the right way. Live Sand and Live Rock should be in your distance future if you plan on keeping a marine tank...
