thanks! yeah, i accept reality. im not going to try and kid myself into thinking he will last forever in that tank, i have just always wanted one, and am giving it a shot. for those who dont know about me, i am always very knowledgeable about my livestock and wouldnt do anything ridiculous. i do not think this is ridiculous, but something out of the norm so to say. as mike stated, anyone here who owns any livestock in a tank is putting that fish/invert/ etc into conditions it is not suited for. all of these critters are meant to be in the ocean, yet we as reefers like them to be on display for us :)

Another point I think people should consider is the progression of our hobby. Think about what was acceptable to keep ten years ago. For things to be pushed as far as they are today people had to break the mold some. New filtering systems and techniques are constantly being created and the livestock that is possible to keep moves forward accordingly. I love reading old marine aquarium books. So much talk of wet/dry filters and of how impossible SPS is to keep in captivity. Keeping my very own track record of keeping fish in mind, a large amount of marine fish traded in the industry are doomed, so why not try to stretch our own abilities and the very ideas of what can be done once in awhile?

i feed mine sand eels. they are frozen and i thaw them. they are about 2-3 inches long and width of a pencil... well actually a bit smaller
exactly, i have a reefkeeing book that was published in the 70s that talks about power compacts as "ideal" and SPS as "for only the expert aquarists" (while that is partially true, im not an expert, and mine do great :) )

You should teach it to hand feed. At the local aquarium here you can feed the rays. All you have to do is make a fist with your thumb in and a fish hanging out from between your fingers. This way they can't get any of you in their mouth.

funny you say that i do hand feed him. his barb isnt removed so when i hold him i have to be careful but hand feeding him is amazing. he feels so cool when hes biting the food on my hand.
