I was just picking up a new ballast tonight and decided to take a look at the fish... So i never buy stuff spontaneously but I just so happened to see a gorgeous baby "Finspot" wrasse (Xenojulis margaritaceus) and I couldnt let it go ;)

Now it is bad practice to buy fish spontaneously like this (especially when they just got done acclimating it a few minutes earlier) but I asked to see if it would eat... it went after the shrimp literally as it hit the water. I was sold ;) so I brought the little guy home and acclimated him. he was swimming around quite happily in his acclimation container and even devoured a lot of pellets before he was even in the tank for a whole minute.

So the good news is that I just picked up a very uncommon wrasse and he is eating VERY well... but the bad news is no pictures until lights on in the morning :(

Very pretty, congrats, good luck it is not considered reef or invert safe and may attack other wrasses.

    SPECIFIC GRAVITY RANGE 1.020-1.024
    TANK SIZE 30 gal
    MAXIMUM SIZE 4"
    TEMPERATURE RANGE 76-84
    PH RANGE 8.0-8.4
    DIET Carnivore
COMMON NAME Finspot Wrasse - Small
    DIFFICULTY Moderate
    INVERT SAFE No
    REEF SAFE No
    SCIENTIFIC NAME Xenojulis margaritaceus
    COMMUNITY SAFE Yes
    ORIGIN western Pacific

The Finspot Wrasse is the only fish in its genus. It has a green and red body with metallic spots and stripes on its face. The iris of its eyes are yellow and its pectoral fins can be very long. It is not often seen in the aquarium trade and is therefore not well known.

Wrasses are generally hardy and easy to take care of. They prefer a tank with plenty of rock work to hide in and a sandy substrate. They should get along with other tank mates but can be aggressive toward other wrasses. They should accept frozen foods, and maybe eventually flake/pellet food. They may harm corals as they scavenge for food.

It is a very interesting looking fish though.

What's your experience with that fish place? They seem to have a pretty wide selection, but it seems they have alot more 'alive arrive' restricted items & that makes me a little concerned.
