    Congrats on the find.

I'll be honest; I've never heard of this species nor have I ever seen one.

I'll conjecture it will be very similar in behavior to that of the Coris of Thalassoma genus, meaning it won't pose a direct threat to corals. Damage might result from it flipping things over in search of food, but you already knew this. ;) I also imagine it'd find inverts delicious in a similar regard.

Keep us posted; definitely following along. Good luck!

Hey vinnie, do you have a link to where you found that info at? I usually use zipcodezoo.com which is very accurate but wouldn't mind checking out that site also.

This is what I am coming up with for diet:
Most species are sand burrowers; carnivores on benthic invertebrates ; also planktivores , and some small species remove ectoparasites of larger fishes .

And it looks like I was right in there closest relative is species Macropharyngodon (leopard wrasse). I also found a scientific taxonomy article that went very in detail about their tooth structure. They have typical wrasse teeth patterns for munching on invertebrates. Also, they are commonly found living in sea grass beds which points towards not being a coral muncher. So I'm thinking they won't be but needless to say I'll be keeping my eye on her.
Lastly, I have found that he is actually a she! She is positively female and when she goes male (terminal phase) apparently the coloration changes to a burgundy with green and yellow spots. The fins are burgundy with green spines, three black spots and a black lining. A yellow or green striated coloration on the face. Pretty much the colors just reverse from female to male...

Oh heck yeah!!! One time I saw a flame hawk find a shrimp I forgot was in a tank. It was a full speed dive bomb. I had just acclimated him. He had been in this tank for all of 5 seconds. I had one of these at the store. If a shrimp died in shipping, he got a treat. He made that Flame Hawk look like a 90 year old woman on a Hover-Round.

I am thinking they just didn't catch the color very well. But that looks like a male and it should be a burgundy red color.
