turn off power heads, filters and anything that will cause water movement, just remember to turn them back on when you are done.

If you are able to switch the camera in manual mode it will take better pictures. Also try white balance if you have that option. One other thing you can try is turn off your actinics.

I have this problem sometimes. If I position the camera close to the glass and press to focus is goes fuzzy. However, if I stand back and zoom in, THEN press to focus the picture comes out clear. Also if you have some sort of recognition software on your camera then you can use that to your advantage along with the close up option (usually symbolized by the flower icon.) Good luck

+1 Tripod is the best tool you can buy. Also, a remote control shutter release will help avoid jostling the camera when taking a picture.

    Good advice above.

    Tripod.

Take zoom pics some distance from tanks.

    Macro mode.

    Crystal clear/still water.

Play with different white balance settings.

Secret for very, very best...underwater camera housing...

Good camera .... not expensive... my best pics taken with 5 year old small sony digital.

Take loads of pics experimenting with different camera settings....

    Patience.

    Enjoy doing...

    Have fun.

    Post results...

I think what you are seeing is the limitation of your camera.
Every camera has a minimum focus distance. As you zoom this distance becomes greater.
In Macro mode the amount of zoom is typically limited (without knowing what camera you have it's hard to determine that limitation)

Personally I would follow all the suggestions above, but try not to zoom as much. If it's a new camera odds are it's 6MP or greater. For posting pictures to the internet you don't really need anything more that 1/2 to 1MP So You can easily crop the image in software on your computer. This will give you the zoom effect your looking for and keep the image sharp
