So I have a few threads going for some of the different pieces of what I'm looking at, but I came across an interesting deal on a tank. I found a brand new, all glass 180g Aqueon Megaflow tank and stand with dual overflows built in for $895. This seems to be the cheapest I have seen anywhere, but wanted to hear what you all thought. Dimensions are 72x24x24. Thanks in advance for your advice.

thats alot of money but a realy nice tank. if you didnt mind a used tank criegs list is awesome to look for tanks. and if you did a DIY stand you could prob save more then 3/4 of that brand new setup. but if you wanted new i would understand New is pretty cool.

Ya, I've been searching craig's list for some time now with now luck locally. Maybe I will look into doing a DIY tank stand to save some dough. I'm more just wondering if that $895 is actually a good price for the tank and stand brand new, or if it's still a little high.

Scash. The stand is really where the majority of cost comes from. $895 is not bad for a 180 reef ready with stand brand New. Does it come with lighting, sump etc.. It can be difficult playing the waiting game for a used one on Craigslist. The only thing I can say about waiting is you could probably get the tank, stand, good lighting, sump, skimmer, pumps etc... for the same price as the tank and stand new.

That $895 is just for the tank and stand. The other problem with the waiting game is that I live in Minneapolis MN, so there doesn't seem to be as many tanks around as on the coasts. But I will for sure keep looking. If I go the brand new route, I'll be planning on having a custom sump/fuge built. Thanks for the advice. Trying to go as slow as I can, and avoiding my natural tendancies to pull the trigger when I'm excited about getting new gear.

Also you can check into estate sales and rummages. Another place is goodwill. Be surprised what you can find there.

You could try giving Saltwater Empire a call if you haven't already, they usually have pretty good deals on tank/stand combos in the area. I think they even had one in stock with a nice stand as well for a while.
$895 doesn't sound too crazy if it's a nice stand (not the cheap black pine ones).

Thanks for the heads up. SWE looks like a great place. Going to swing by there today to do some more research. Looks like they have a different 180g tank, that has corner overflows instead. And they're only getting $699. So that's a $200 savings right there. Thanks again for the heads up.

Actually, after reading closer it looks like that $699 was tank only so my search continues.
