Well its always been a dream of mine to fly planes, and its now slowly happening. I'm going on a discovery flight saturday and al probably start lessons soon also. I do have a question for the few of you pilots out there on the forum. I have a heart murmur and high bloodpressure. Im not worried about the bloodpressure becuase its undercontrol, but the heart murmur i am. The doc said its a functional heart murmur(basicly a benign murmur) and iv had and eco done, which came back normal. my question is because i want to make aviation a career will i beable to pass a 1st class medical? Thanks.

I would talk to a doctor who gives pilot medicals. I think you will be fine with your 3rd class medical for a while. Welcome to the wonderful world of flying!
You will soon find out that you thought reef tanks were an expensive hobby, lol.

LOL i no i was quoted 5600$ for 40hours of flight time, with the aircraft, gas, and the instructer. I no i do now most of the basics of flying so that should help shave a little time off. I would amagine it will take me around 50-60hrs, and around 7000$. Thanks bama, but i do want to get a first class, do you think i could pass.

I will never be a pilot, but I absolutely love to fly. There is nothing in the world like flying in small planes and helicopters. I have often said that is if I go by shark or helicopter I will die happy, the 2 things that give me the most joy, diving and flying!!!!!

    Congrats and good luck.

You will likely be ok, but may need additional tests/certification to prove that it's benign, etc.

I'm a 1000 hour instrument rated private pilot and I'm lucky enough to have no significant issues to keep me out of the air. The main things most people need to be concerned with are:

    - Blood pressure
    - Diabetes
    - Heart disease/issues (non-correctable or not benign)
    - Vision - color blindness is a complete no-go

Also, I had about 6 hours of time in the cockpit before I fully started my training and I also had the benefit of being an aerospace engineer by education and NASA space shuttle engineer via my career. I finished my training in 52 hours. The average is 72 hours.

For most people 60 is very ambitious and 50 is rare. Count on at least 60 hours. Then you need to think about your Instrument rating. That makes private look like a cakewalk :)

I think i will actually do very well on 50hours, though iv never flown i feel very confident, i baught three faa books, about flight dynamics, theorys, how the aircraft instruments work. I have read most of the important of the stuff so i do think it will help. I wish i could use fligh sim time as my private time(i have over 900 hours on it)!!! But i am really hoping, i asked an AA pilot and he said none of the conditions i have are disqualifing they will just do an ecg and and mabe a stress test and im off. I am a bit worried though becuase i want to make aviation a career, but the doc says the heart mumur is significant(meaning quite noticable). But he said its benign and its nothing to worry about at all.. Lets hope i find some pilot friendly ames.
