I was eyeballing this BRIGHT pink acan yesterday.

I didn't buy it because it looked a little less than vigorously healthy. I'm still relatively new to the hobby, but it just looked like it wasn't growing, kind of underinflated, so to speak. It had two heads, and gave the appearance that had had only two heads for quite a while. That's the best I can do to describe it's condition.

BUT, it was really striking, color-wise. When I say pink, I mean bubble-gum, barbie doll, cotton candy PINK, with just the faintest touch of lemon-lime over on one edge. When I googled "pink acan" I got only images of corals that might be called pink (with a little imagination), but nothing like this at all.

So should I go back and buy this thing? I'm a sucker for bright, unusual colors. Maybe it didn't like the lighting it was under, needed feeding, etc.?

    Thanks!

Ask the LFS how long it has been there. If it's new it may just be under stress. Or it may have been moved around when another customer wanted something else in the same tank.
You may be right about the lighting as well.
If the price is right and you are ready to take care of it, you may want to just take a chance with it.
    Good luck.
    If you do get it......pictures.....

If the price is not to bad I say pick it up. I picked up a 3 head green/purple one a few months ago.it to looked deflated...after a few days being in the tank and some feedings it perked right up..now its getting 2 new heads forming...just go with how you feel..

If the colour is good in the LFS it can only get better in a stable system. If you like it Get it!

most acans I find in the LFS are "underfed" and are on verge of starvation. When you get it home you can start to feed it meaty foods and it will fatten up. Acans are tough little corals and you will be amazed at how fast it will recover.

Again, ask how long they have had it and was it just fragged. That is one thing acans dont always fare well with is the frag itself. If they cut right through the polyps sometimes those will not recover but the other polyps will be fine.

Also they will retract whenever they are moved, touched, etc. Will then open back up in a day or two. Just rearranged the rocks in my tank yesterday and all my acans are all shriveled up into rock. In a few days they will be fat and happy.

    The pink ones are cool!
