    ok,
as for the scooter dragonet, are they known as finicky eaters, and not likely to eat the frozen food I'm feeding the other guys? - will he sift the sand?
and do you think two bottom dwellers are too much for a 50 gallon tank (18" high)?
    Thanks,
    Brad

Some are finicky and some aren't. Every fish is different even when they're the same species. It does not sift sand. It's not a question of whether or not two bottom dwellers are too much, more like whether or not they will get along. I don't see any problems between a watchman and a scooter but there will most likely be some spats if the scooter goes to close to the watchman's burrow.

I have the pink spotted shrimp goby. Have had him for just over a month now. He did no sand sifting at all until about a week ago. Last week my wife noticed him as she called it...spitting sand out his gills. I observed him for 20-30 minutes sifting different areas of the front side of the tank. Since then he has continued to sift sand daily all across the front of the tank. It is very odd for these guys to do it, but mine does. He does eat the frozen food I feed him also. I have a rare one I believe. He has made a burrow as Amcarrig mentioned that he protects aggressively. He opens his jaw and jumps at the fish or emerald crabs that come near it. My wife and I think it is rather cute. he has not harmed anything. It's just cute. As soon as I get a new digi I will take capture some pictures of it for you if I can. The Goby is really cool and I love the colors.

I have two Sleeper Banded gobies who don't sift sand and are very recusive. They come out only to eat the frozen mysis when I am present, otherwise they scurry every time I get close.

We kept those in stock constantly @ my old job, once the healthy ones settle in they begin sifting....even in the devilish waters of Petco. I've had one for 2 years now and he sifsts for pods and worms if i dont feed him on scheduel....then sometimes goes on a rampage and turns up every sqarue inch of sand. Some do some dont....but from what i saw @ my old job most large adults that are freshly wild caught will once they have established thier burrow.
